Murchison Falls extension

This Murchison Falls trip is designed as an extension to our ten day safari to create a comprehensive fourteen night Ugandan tour.

Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe Airport where you will be met by your guide and transferred to your the Airport Guest House.
Day 2: Rhino tracking and travel to Masindi
Leaving Entebbe early, you will drive approx. 3-4 hours to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and, after lunch, track the ‘white’ rhino as well as enjoying a nature walk. You then continue to Masindi where you spend the night.
Hotel: Masindi hotel
Day 3: Forest conservation project and Murchison Falls national park (MFNP)
Visit a private forest project and learn how the owner is trying to conserve the forest through tourism. Enjoy a nature walk with chances to see the resident chimpanzee family and a variety of birds. After lunch in Masindi, drive approx. 3 hours into MFNP and, if time allows, take a short game drive. In the evening, venture out in search of Nightjars.
Hotel: Murchison River Lodge
Day 4: Game drive. Boat cruise
Start this nature-filled day by taking the 07:00am ferry across the River Nile for a game drive on the north bank – possible sightings include: lions, elephant, giraffe, various antelope, wart hogs, buffalo, jackal, hyena, Patas monkeys, baboons and numerous bird species. Return to your hotel for lunch and then take a boat cruise, along the Nile with excellent chances of game viewing including hippos, crocodiles and maybe some elephant, antelope and buffalo. Birds may include Goliath Heron, African Fish Eagle, Pied Kingfisher, Rock Pratincole, Northern Carmine Bee-eaters and many others. Alight from the falls and hike (approx. 30 mins) to the top for spectacular views over the falls and across the park.

Unusually, you leave the park by local fishing boat, heading first down the Nile to the delta and then out on to Lake Albert where you can search for Shoebill and other species, against the stunning backdrop of the blue mountains of Congo. You guide will be waiting for you as you leave the boat and after lunch will drive you, up the Albertine Rift Valley escarpment to Kabwoya game reserve approx. 3-4 hours away. There should be time for some birding along the way or a short game drive on arrival.

After an early morning game drive, you will make your way to Kibale forest (approx. 3-4 hours) where you will join our ten day safari by mid-afternoon.
